Why do I need to request a testimonial?

Microsoft policy states that:

Vendors are allowed to ask Microsoft employees to provide a general reference or a reference directly to a current or prospective client.

“Testimonials can only  be communicated to current or prospective clients on an individual basis, accompanied by the proper disclaimer.”

Microsoft employees who choose to provide a general reference must communicate the following to the vendor, either verbally or in writing:

“The views and opinions expressed herein are my own and do not necessarily represent the views and opinions of Microsoft Corporation.  You may provide this statement to your individual customers or clients but you are not authorized to publically display or exhibit it in any manner or medium.”
