What Elmo Taught Me About Marketing…

My kids love Elmo.

What’s not to love?

Elmo’s all about love, isn’t he?

Well, I learned there’s a lot more to love about Elmo than meets the eye.

It’s the story of Kevin Clash, the man who IS Elmo and in this wonderful documentary “Being Elmo,” you learn the story of grit, determination, and passion that Kevin demonstrated on his road to becoming Elmo.

There’s a life story here, no doubt, but there’s a Marketing story as well.

When Kevin was a  young man, his friends teased him…boys shouldn’t be playing with puppets, but Kevin was passionate about it and stay focused on being Remarkable and injecting energy into every fiber (pun sort of intended) of his being as it related to puppeteering.

His path took him to Jim Henson and worldwide fame.

It’s inspiring to see and important to remember.

I know when I see Elmo now, I’ll see him in a whole new light.

And, a big thanks to Mitch Joel on this one. I never would have found out about this movie were it not for his wonderful blog.
