Be honest now.
How often do you see a subject line and just delete the email without reading it at all?
Right, I thought so.
In an attention economy, your time-to-deletion is faster than ever.
That means your email subject line, which is usually an afterthought, is actually your single most critical part of your communications.
Wonder why some people like Twitter?
It's because with 140 characters, you'd better figure out how to say something of high value....very quickly.
Michael and I were talking about this.
What if you re-thought your email and it became only two things
- a compelling subject line
- a link to the next step (which could be the blog post or the relevant article, etc.)
That would force us all to communicate more efficiently.
Combine with this the art of the forward and you may find your emailing is more productive...as measured by responses from your recipients.

Jeremy, this was great. Using twitter really should make us more efficient and effective when using email. You just reinforced that for me. Thank you! You have become a favorite. You are on my list which I am writing a blog on. I will tweet it.
