Step 4: Review of the tools and technologies and what they mean

The online tools enabling us to listen and respond are great, better than ever. While they will ultimately change and improve, it is important that we spend some time understanding some of the current toolset, what is on the horizon, and what it means for marketers (both as an opportunity and a threat).

Some of the tools/technologies we will discuss include:

  • RSS
  • Blogs
  • Widgets
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • FriendFeed/SocialThing/AlertThingy
  • Plaxo/LinkedIn
  • Flickr
  • Digg

Some or most of the technologies may be review, but the key concepts are critical:

  • Sharing
  • Syndication
  • Open networks
  • Connected individuals
  • Influencer models
