“We want our people to do their best work.”
“People should feel inspired and invigorated.”
A lot of it is empty talk. We both know that.
Had the good fortune to visit with some folks at The Motley Fool the other day and while I was waiting for the meeting to start, I walked over to check out the view….where I saw this sign.
The bottom part is the most remarkable. It’s a weekly forecast, which tells me that someone put this up specifically for this week (since in the dead of winter, it wouldn’t be so inspirational, would it?)
There’s a lesson here for how you treat employees and customers.
This sign is for existing employees. Any potential recruit would not have been (most likely) in the room I was in, but this is the company saying to its employees “go outside, dare to break the cubicle mold.” In essence, continuing to recruit their employees.
The same is true for customers. We spend so much time wooing them (I guess dating works here as well), and once we’ve got them, well you know the story.
It’s not huge, mongo initiatives that create positive Word-of-Mouth (WOM), it’s little details that make a big impact.
The Fool has a good track record with me, as I love their receptionist, btw.
