Never Stop Marketing Award #2…

December 20, 2009

imageGoes to Dave Sobel of EvolveTech.

We were chatting the other day and (while running a very successful business, I might add), he shared with me his previous month’s worth of activities.

But, he doesn’t get the award for that…he gets the award because he does this pretty much every month.

As Dave wrote, “I always believe if you’re going to say you’re a leader in the industry, you have to do the actions that make you a leader.”

So, joining JackBe as an award winner, here, in his own words, is what Dave pulled off over a month.

Take a deep breath…and here we go….

Oct 19 to Oct 26,

“I was in the UK doing HTG. I made sure to snap pictures of myself in my HTG green shirt, which will be used in a “Where in the world is HTG campaign” later. I arranged to bring another HTG member from Minneapolis to speak to those guys too, helping build the UK partner channel. One of the vendors in the room was IBM, who we’re doing more with. If I can help them in the UK too… good for everyone. I also wrote several Yelp reviews while over there.”

Week of October 26 to 31st
Back in the office. I did a podcast on managed services for a partner, then did another podcast with a second colleague talking about the upcoming HTG & Connectwise event the following week….

Week of November 1 to November 7

I was out of the office attending the HTG meetings in Florida and the ConnectWise Partner Summit.

While there, I spent time with IBM getting ideas for their programs and offering feedback on next year. I recorded three video pieces for varvid.com and connectwisepartnersummit.com (because usually people don’t volunteer for these, so I always say yes. )

I met with the editor of ChannelInsider.com, who I write a weekly blog for, and I made sure to attend his session to have some fun interactions with him (which became a blog the following week, and which we both promoted. I did a blog post for the Summit website which I gave to them – they posted it on their site. I hosted a reception for UK and Australian partners, looking to recruit for HTG (and you get to talk to a lot of other partners this way).

While there, I also made sure to put together a night on the town for Friday night with people I consider friends in the industry – no work, just fun – so we could all spend some time together. I consider it simple relationship building – and from a friend perspective – but that kind of giving is important.

Week of November 8 to 14.
Back in the office, set up a series of meetings with a colleague in North Carolina, as there’s a conference down there that wants me to speak but can’t afford me.

Thus, I found them a sponsor IT company from HTG who could participate in the event and then bring me down.

I participated in a volunteer Microsoft focus group call, putting together one of their PAC groups. I also put together an alliance with another IT company for helping solution providers with virtualization, which will have a PR component to the promotion. Also did some press about the work Sharon and I did on life/work balance for HTG.

Week of November 15 to 21
I did a 5W25 webinar with Microsoft as the presenter to help other partners on building a virtualization practice.
I then hopped a train and went to speak to the SBS users group in Philly – teaching them about virtualization.

Another call about the conference in NC.

Ended the week with an organization call to the guys in the UK about the January HTG meetings.

I’m planning to do a speaking engagement to a user group while I’m over there, as well as participate in the ConnectWise user group – good to be in as many places as you can, particularly if the plane is already covered. Did a lunch and learn with my staff with ConnectWise, who they were nice enough to do live for us. I sent one of those Edible Arrangements down to thank them.

Wow! I’m tired just reading that. Impressive stuff.

Congratulations, Dave!
