One of the survival strategies for the Attention Economy is "be the connector" among like-minded people.
It's a no-brainer and, in the case of the shoemaker's children having no shoes, it took my client, Luis Derechin to say, "hey, why don't you organize a conference call with all of your clients where we can discuss your new whitepaper?"
After kicking myself for not thinking of it first, I readily and heartily agreed.
The result?
5 ridiculously smart people on the phone for 32 minutes (yes, you read that right) debating the pros and cons of Community Driven Marketing.
Two of them each led a discussion for 16 minutes based on an area that was of concern to them and then solicited feedback from the others.
It was a tremendously powerful, exciting, and collaborative experience in which the discussion helped refine all of our thinking and enabled all of us to create a shared vision for how we want to build our businesses going forward.
Lesson: Do whatever you can to bring people with a shared interest together. Everyone will walk away richer for it.
