Saw his interview with Charlie Rose awhile back and was, as always, impressed with his insight and acumen.
I thought his best point was about the inevitable death of newspapers. “Stop the presses tomorrow,” he advises.
Would you rather have short, acute pain or chronic pain?
In this regard, Andreesen has hit on something powerful in the human psyche (and organizational psyche).
We resist the acute for the chronic in most things we do.
Lesson: If you can condition yourself to handle the acute pain, you’ll be more adaptable to change and better prepared to seize opportunities. Yes, it’s Darwinian, but remember that most of your competitors prefer chronic pain.
