A while back, I kicked off the conversation here about how you may start to assess the value of your personal brand.
I came across two Twitter-related tools which can help you do that for yourself...and for others.
When it comes to Twitter, I can handle about 4 tweets/day per person I follow. What FollowCost does is to let you know what you can expect in terms of update frequency from any Twitter user.
And, it's a quality not quantity world, right? (well, sometimes at least). So, what Twinfluence does is attempt to measure how influential a given Tweeter is....so is it worth it to follow that person?
I don't see this as definitive. There's no absolute Yes/No in social media, imho (for the most part). But, using some data, you can triangulate on the most valuable people...for you.
Happy Tweeting!

Thinking about how in my case, with just 50 "friends", Facebook elevates one's perception of valuable "friends" on a daily basis unless one has, say, over 100, or in your case, over 1000, in which case the quantity must overwhelm the mind, resulting in tuning everyone's updates out. Is there a critical mass factor in Facebook's efficacy? Just wondering what you think.

There may be. I don't tune everyone out, I just do my best to listen in an efficient way. Not easy, but the goal.

That's just a nice way of saying you screen.
