One of the hardest habits to change about moving into the attention economy is not assuming that you have permission.
You need to earn it.
Worse yet, the downside of assuming permission will result in a blockade….of you.
Chris Brogan shared the idea of “access vs. acceptance” in a post a while back called “Stop Adding Me to Your Newsletter” and he’s right.
LESSON: It is ALWAYS better to assume that you DON’T have access and ask for it (or explain why you should have it), then assuming the other way.
